About the bees
The Apis mellifera, the honey-bringing bee, has lived on our planet for about 15 million years. From the oldest inhabitants of the Earth, lives in its own hierarchical organized society and its “home” is the hive.
Core of the family is the “queen”, which is responsible for the bee hive reproduction. The “workers” are the main cell population, with various responsibilities, such as the prospecting for food, protection of hive etc. Finally, the drones are the male population, with solely role to fertilize the queen.
Man and bees
Beekeeping is the ancient art of bees kept in hives by man. The aim of beekeeping is the collection and utilization of hive products: honey, royal jelly, beeswax, pollen and propolis.
Dating to 15,000 years ago, it was practiced throughout the world, from the pyramids of the Pharaohs, ancient Greece, the Middle Ages to the present day. Today there are two ways of beekeeping: the traditional one, where the hives remain in one place and the modern one, nomadic beekeeping, where the hives are transported depending on blooming.
